2025 NHSN Reporting Changes for Nursing Homes
Scheduled to take effect January 1, 2025, National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) plans to make permanent more time-consuming data collection from SNFs.
Although Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed a boost of 1.3% in 2025 Medicare payments to skilled nursing facilities, that same proposed home health pay rule will also make permanent new reporting requirements for providers. In addition to current data on COVID-19, the collection of new flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) information will be required next year. Data must be entered weekly through the National Healthcare Safety Network.
Next year, providers will be required to report additional data; facility census, resident vaccination status for COVID, flu and RSV, confirmed cases of COVID among residents, and more. With the following link, you can view the Calendar Year 2025 Home Health Prospective Payment System Final Rule in entirety. CMS states their reasoning behind this additional data collection is to help long-term care facilities “gain important insights related to their evolving infection control needs.” While previous reporting requirements were set to expire December 31, 2024, the 2025 rule will make them permanent.
